Object Viewer: Object Icons in Object Tabs (Disabled Option)

I was reminded of an Object Viewer feature we had tried, but decided against -- showing Object Icons in the Object Viewer's object tabs. A problem with this basic implementation is that spacing is too large, so makes the tabs visually confusing. I couldn't find a way (e.g. with style sheets) to reduce this spacing.

In any case, we ARE (in RW 7.1 and 7.2) showing object icons in the object drop-down menu:
